1959 Lincoln Continental 2 Door Hardtop

Construction Details

This is another eBay acquisition,an original AMT kit from 1959. The basics are there.

This one's not as rough as the convertible, but still needs lots of work and some replacement parts.

As with the convertible, disassembly, removal of custom parts and stripping the paint and decals in CSC shows up what needs to be done. It turns out there's more serious damage than I thought. Check out the glob in the center rear of the hood.
The sculpturing on the left rear quarter panel was a real mess from where the skirts had been glued on. Luckily I had a spare '60 body, so I decided to swap the quarter panels out.

The '60 quarter panel wasn't an exact replacement. Notice the different shape it has on the rear edge. But I should be able to reshape it without a lot of trouble.

I reinforced the glued joint with plastic sprue and super glue.

So far, so good. Still need some more reshaping on the rear edge of the quarter panel.

And I'm still working on the damage to the hood. Unfortunately the hood from the scrap '60 body wouldn't work.
